Always Chasing Rainbows

I have been known to chase rainbows and sunsets. There are many songs written about rainbows. One of my favorites is the “Rainbow Connection”. The lyrics ask the question, “Why are their so many songs about rainbows and what’s on the other side? ” I think I know why there are so many songs about rainbows. Today I saw some of the most beautiful rainbows. Hopefully my photos reflect some of the awesomeness of what I witnessed. I am still not sure what is on

The Birds of Oaks Bottom Book

I am excited to start working on my book called the “The Birds of Oaks Bottom.” I have now spent over one year photographing the Birds of Oaks Bottom Wildlife refuge. Since the start of the pandemic, I have made a daily habit to visit Oaks Bottom. I have compiled a huge photo library so it will be a challenge to pick my favorite photos. I will try to have a PDF version to send out to my Patron members in early June. I also

Baby Rabbit Rehab

It felt good to bring a baby bunny back from near death. I spent most of the day helping it recover. I found it in my garden in catatonic state and barely breathing. I noticed that it was bleeding from its eye. I think it may have been attacked by an animal. I decided to call the local animal rehab center and I got an answering machine. The rabbit looked so close to death, I decided it probably would not survive a commute across town.

Birds with Hairdos

I recently was lucky to get my first pictures of a Pileated Woodpecker and a Kingfisher in the same day. I could not help to notice that both of these birds had very funky hairdos. I wonder how much birds have influenced hair styles and fashion. Here is a gallery of some of trend setters with good hair days....

Northern Shovelers

Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, situated in the heart of Portland, Oregon, serves as a vital habitat for a diverse array of flora and fauna. Among the various avian species that call this refuge their home, the Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata) stands out as an ecologically significant member. My Kayak Adventures On The Willamette River

Today was a beautiful day on the Willamette River. I launched my kayak near the Sellwood bridge and paddled about 1 mile to the Ross Island. I was able to photograph some beautiful birds including my first photo of a horned grebe. I was also lucky to find a pair of Kingfishers. Below are a few of my photographs from today’s session. Great White Egret

I photographed this beautiful Great White Egret at Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge in Vancouver Washington. This is a fun place to go to photograph birds and the wildlife. They have a road that you can drive around the perimeter of the property. The road goes through wetlands and a forested area that is home to Eagles, Egrets, Herons, Hawks, Tundra Swans, and a lot more....

Macro Nature Photos

I enjoy finding the beauty in things overlooked. Macrophotography helps me to see things that I often miss without a lot of magnification. Here are some samples of my macro photos. I will be posting a lot of these during the Spring. Some of my favorite subjects are dragonflies, flowers, mushrooms, spiders, and much more. Dragonflies Dragonflies are on of my favorite insects to photograph. They are very colorful and full of detail. They are also fascinating creatures. They have been around since prehistoric times
